Korea’s biggest music showcase festival, Zandari Festa, is taking place this weekend in Hongdae!
Known among the Korean music industry as “Korea’s SXSW”, the festival is similar to events like SXSW or CMJ where shows are spread out across many different clubs and fest-goers are given wristbands that allow them to hop between venues.
This year’s fest will take place from October 2-4 and feature 261 bands from around the world performing in 24 Hongdae venues. Many of Korea’s top indie acts will perform and there will be groups traveling from the UK, Poland, Russia, France, the US, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, and other places to play showcases too.
Started in 2012, Zandari Festa quickly established itself as South Korea’s largest music showcase festival. The annual event takes place in Seoul’s Hongdae area, the epicenter of youth culture in South Korea and ground zero for the country’s indie music scene. For three days each October, Zandari Festa brings together acts and music industry professionals from around the world for concerts and conferences at more than 20 unique venues around Hongdae. One wristband allows festival-goers access to all of Zandari Festa’s shows.
One of the more notable bands performing this weekend, Love X Stereo, shared with moonROK, “We’re going to perform a new song at our showcase and are super stoked to share it. And right before our set, we’re going to hang out and dance hard with our buddies The KDMS, an English/Polish electro/disco duo. They are such a cool band. We played a show with them a few years back and are so happy to see them again.“
Lead singer of the group, Annie Ko also said, “Zandari Festa makes a huge statement saying that Korean bands are still very much alive, and all of us are going to have a hell of a good time together.“
