At a press conference on September 2nd, YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk revealed the name of the group to debut out of the upcoming survival show, “MIX&MATCH.”
Yang stated, “The name that we’ve decided on for the group to debut out of ‘MIX&MATCH’ is ‘iKON.'” He continued, “The spelling is originally ‘ICON,’ but we’re using a ‘K’ instead of a ‘C’ to represent Korean culture.”
The YG CEO continued, “Through ‘Gangnam Style,’ PSY rose to a level of popularity taht we couldn’t have predicted. Moving forward, we are going to work on things that are unimaginable. It would be great if iKON became representative singers of Korea.”
On the topic of choosing the members of iKON, Yang Hyun Suk closed out by saying, “I will not put my personal feelings into this. The choice is going to be made by the nation.”
As reported yesterday, there will be nine contestants on “MIX&MATCH” — the six members of “WIN” Team B, and three current YG trainees.
