Stage Name: T.O.P (탑) Birth Name: Choi Seung Hyun (최승현) Birthday: November 4, 1987 Hometown: Seoul, South Korea Nationality: Korean Debut: August 19, 2006 Position: Main rapper
T.O.P is the main rapper for Kpop supergroup BIGBANG. Born Choi Seung Hyun, T.O.P showed interest in music from an early age. In middle school he became an underground rapper under the name "Tempo", and became close with eventual fellow BIGBANG member G-Dragon, as the two lived in the same neighborhood. G-Dragon moved away though, and the two became distant until G-Dragon contacted T.O.P about auditioning for YG Entertainment.
T.O.P was initially rejected by YG for being "too chubby". He went home and immediately began exercising, reportedly losing 20 kg in 40 days, and successfully passed the audition six months later. T.O.P was given his stage name by fellow YG artist SE7EN, and was put in a group alongside G-Dragon, Taeyang, Seungri, and Daesung. BIGBANG debuted in August 2006 with T.O.P as one of the main rappers.
Following his debut with the group, T.O.P was the first member of BIGBANG to foray into acting. In 2007 he starred in the KBS2 drama I Am Sam, and the 2009 drama Iris. T.O.P is also one of the most sought-after actors when it comes to film, and has so far starred in a leading role in five films, including Nineteen, 71: Into the Fire, Commitment, Tazza: The Hidden Card, and Out of Control.
In November 2011, T.O.P and fellow BIGBANG member G-Dragon teamed up to create a unit, GD&TOP. The duo's singles were massively popular in both Korea and abroad, debuting at #1 on Korea's music charts and taking the top three single spots with "Knock Out", "High High", and "Oh Yeah". T.O.P has also casually pursued a solo career with the 2010 release of "Turn It Up" and the 2013 release of his single "Doom Dada".
T.O.P is a known art collector and has curated multiple gallery events. He also designed a furniture line in collaboration with Vitra in 2015.
