Name: SHINee (샤이니) Debut: May 25, 2008 Debut Single: "Replay" Members: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, Taemin SHINee is a five-member idol group signed under SM Entertainment. The group contains five members: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin. SHINee derives their name from a combination of the English word "shine" and the suffix "ee," meaning "one who receives light". SHINee debuted in 2008 with a contemporary R&B single entitled "Replay". The same year the group released their first full-length album, The SHINee World, which debuted at #3 on Korea's music charts. SHINee won their first #1 trophy on a weekend music show with the single from the album, "Love Like Oxygen". In February 2009, the group won the "Best Newcomer" award at the Seoul Music Awards, and months later released their second mini album Romeo. The album's lead single "Juliette" is a remake of High School Musical star Corbin Bleu's "Deal With It". In October of 2009, the group released their third mini album 2009, Year of Us with a lead single entitled "Ring Ding Dong". The song became instantly popular for its catchy hook, and solidified SHINee as a major player in Kpop. In 2010 the group followed up "Ring Ding Dong" with "Lucifer," an equally (if not more) popular single. Within hours of its release, the single and the album of the same title topped all of Korea's music charts. In 2011 SHINee made their debut in Japan with the release of a Japanese version of their first Korean single, "Replay" and embarked on a Japanese tour shortly after. In March of 2012 SHINee returned to Korea to release their fourth mini album Sherlock before heading back to Japan to solidify their top status there. SHINee released their third full-length Korean album in two parts: Dream Girl - The Misconceptions of You and Why So Serious? - The Misconceptions of Me. The release was followed by a compilation album combining the two called The Misconceptions of Us. In 2015 and 2016 respectively, the group released their fourth and fifth full-length albums Odd and 1 of 1. Both albums did relatively well on the charts, and reinforced SHINee's signature innovative electro-pop sound. The group is now considered to be a trendsetter not just in music, but in fashion and Korean pop culture in general. During their time together, SHINee has so far headlined 4 Asian tours, a world tour, and 4 Japanese tours. They are one of Kpop's top groups, and one of the few groups in Kpop to have made it so far without any changes to the member lineup.
