Group Name: iKON Debut: October 4, 2015 Debut Single: “My Type” Members: B.I, Bobby, Jinhwan, Junhoe, Yunhyeong, Donghyuk and Chanwoo
iKON is a seven member male Kpop group formed under YG Entertainment. The group was formed via multiple survival audition programs, the first being 2013’s WIN: Who Is Next. On the program, six of the current members of iKON (B.I, Bobby, Jinhwan, Junhoe, Donghyuk, and Yunhyeong) comprised “Team B”, who competed against and eventually lost to “Team A”, the team that would go on to debut as the YG group WINNER.
The next year, Team B members Bobby and B.I competed on the third season of the popular rap program, Show Me the Money. B.I was eliminated after making it to the Top 8, and Bobby went on to win the entire program. At the same time, the two were also filming Mix & Match, YG’s follow-up program to WIN: Who Is Next to determine the members of iKON. B.I, Bobby, and Jinhwan were confirmed members, but the remaining Team B members had to compete against other YG trainees for a spot in the group. By the end of the program, the lineup of the group was set with all of the Team B members, plus one of the competing trainees, Chanwoo.
After several postponements, iKON finally debuted in the fall of 2015. The group announced that they would have a two-part debut, with the pre-release of “My Type” on September 15, and the release of their EP Debut Half Album and title single “Rhythm Ta” on October 1. iKON set a new precedent for Kpop rookies by hosting a sold-out 13,000 capacity solo concert on October 3 at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Area, the day before they officially debuted. The group made their official broadcast debut on the October 4 episode of Inkigayo.
Following their Korean debut, iKON embarked on a Japanese fanmeet tour, attracting nearly 27,000 fans from all over the country. The group returned to Korea in November 2015 to release the second half of their debut album with lead singles “Apology” and “Anthem”. In early 2016, iKON went on a full-scale tour in Japan, attracting 322,000 fans after adding extra dates due to high demand.
Most recently, iKON returned to Korea to release a new single, “#WYD” in May of 2016.
