At a young age, Chanyeol watched the movie "School of Rock" and was inspired to learn to play the drums. In his first year of middle school, he formed a band called "Heavy Noise" with his best friends before joining his high school band, "Siren." Musically, Chanyeol says his biggest influences are Jason Mraz and Eminem, though he likes rock bands like Muse, Green Day, Nirvana, and X-Japan as well. Chanyeol became a trainee at SM Entertainment in 2008 after winning second place at the "Smart Model Competition." It was during his training days at SM that Chanyeol turned his focus towards rapping. In February 2012, Chanyeol became the last member of EXO to be revealed to the public. Since debuting with the EXO, Chanyeol has gone on to undertake a number of solo projects, including an acting role in the Korean film "Salut d'Amour," a lead role in the Chinese film "So I Married an Anti-fan," and it was recently announced that he will also be starring in the 2017 MBC drama "Picnic."
