BoA was first discovered at age eleven by SM Entertainment talent scouts when she accompanied her brother to his dance audition for the company. SM immediately offered BoA a contract and though her parents were initially opposed to her dropping out of school to become an entertainer, her brother eventually convinced them to allow her to do so. BoA trained for two years at SM before debuting at the age of thirteen with her moderately successful album "ID: Peace B." Following her Korean debut, BoA focused on promoting in Japan, where she became a huge success with her second Japanese album "Valenti" sold over 1.2 million copies. Having established herself as a purveyor of Korean culture abroad, BoA returned to Korea where she was received triumphantly by the public. BoA continued to release albums in both Japan and Korea before making her foray into the American market in 2008. That year, BoA released her debut all-English American single, "Eat You Up," which eventually landed at #9 on Billboard's "Hot Dance Club Play" chart. Despite her efforts to break into the U.S. market, BoA struggled to gain traction and eventually returned to Korea and in 2010 released "Hurricane Venus," a full-length album (her first in five years) celebrating her 10-year anniversary since debut. In 2013 BoA made her Hollywood film debut, starring opposite Derek Hough in "Make Your Move 3D." Since then, BoA has remained active in both the Korean and Japanese markets, her most recent full-length Korean release being "Kiss My Lips." Throughout the course of her career, BoA has held 14 tours, sold millions of albums, and established herself as a top artist in both Korea and Japan.
