At an overseas event, Sunye, a member of the girl group Wonder Girls, mentioned her thoughts about returning to the entertainment world. To this, JYP Entertainment, Sunye’s agency revealed, “Sunye is still part of our agency.”
A JYP Entertainment source told Star News on the 10th, “I believe Sunye was talking about her plans in the future and not her immediate plans when she was at a church event in America. In the agency’s view, Sunye is still a member of Wonder Girls. Sunye is still a singer within JYP Entertainment and a member of Wonder Girls. Wonder Girls will not disband and Sunye is not leaving either.”
The source also stated, “Sunye did not leave nor was the group disbanded. Nothing has changed.”
On the 5th, Sunye and her husband attended a benefit concert for the poor in Cité Soleil, Haiti at the Calvary Korean United Methodist Church in East Brunswick, New Jersey. There, Sunye was said to have stated, “I rose to the top as a singer, but I couldn’t fill the void I felt. I want to share the love of Jesus and share the gospel my entire life.” These kinds of statements aroused speculation that Sunye has left the group and retired from the life of a singer.
As she and her husband left for a mission trip to Haiti on March 18, Sunye stated, “I plan to do mission work in Haiti for the next 5 years, but I also intend on continuing my activities as an performer.”
Last year January, Sunye married James Park, a Korean missionary living in Canada, in Seoul. In October, Sunye gave birth to a baby girl in Canada, where they now live. Since then, at the end of last year, Sunye signed a renewal of contract with JYP Entertainment.
