SM Entertainment recently held a pre-opening for their new multi-purpose cultural space SMTOWN@coexartium.
The attendees of the pre-opening at Coex Artium in Samsung-dong, Korea on December 20th were SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man, Byun Bokyung the President of Coex, 13 members who attended the Mice Cluster, and members from EXO, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, f(x), Red Velvet, and actors Kim Minjong, Go Ara, Lee Jaeryong, Yun Dahun, Kang Yewon, Jung Somin, Kim Ian, as well as other SM artists.
The pre-opening of the multipurpose cultural space, SMTOWN@coexartium, exhibited the celebrity shop “SUM,” “SMTOWN STUDIO” an educational experience center with real artists, “SMTOWN LIVErary” a merchandising café, a big Panavision, hologram performance, real performance, media mapping performance, and the nation’s first multi theater “SMTOWN THEATRE.” A clip of the hologram musical, “School OZ,” premiering in January 14th, was also exhibited in the pre-opening.
The pre-opening tape cutting ceremony was held in hologram form, and was conducted by Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon, SHINee’s Minho, EXO’s Kai, Red Velvet’s Seulgi, and in real life on stage of the “SMTOWN THEATRE,” Coex’s President Byun Bokyung, SM founder Lee Soo Man, Girls Generation’s Yoona, SHINee’s Taemin, f(x)’s Victoria, and EXO’s Tao. After the tape cutting ceremony, SMTOWN THEATRE screened the hologram musical and heightened the interest and anticipation of SMTOWN@coexartium.
The new space allows for continuous content for those who want to experience and enjoy Korea’s popular culture, and is expected to be a main tourist attraction for international tourists.
Furthermore, “SMTOWN@coexartium” with SM and 40 other smaller enterprises will participate in producing next generation content shared growth project. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency will work together for a digital content market where private citizens and government can create together.
“SMTOWN@coexartium” will have its grand opening on January 13. “SUM,” on the 2nd floor, and “SMTOWN LIVErary,” on the 4th floor will resume normal operating hours from the 20th.
