Singer Baek Jiyoung was selected to be the main judge on Mnet’s “Superstar K6.” The new season will feature a new four judge panel system.
On the 15th, Mnet announced, “Baek Jiyoung will be the main judge for the sixth season of ‘Superstar K,’ joined by Lee Seungchul, Yoon Jongshin, and Kim Bumsoo for a powerful lineup.”
Baek Jiyoung’s emotion filled and deeply appealing voice, her distinctively expressive color has her receiving praises such as ‘best vocalist.’ The special judges on the previous seasons of Superstar K were there not only to deliver fair judgements to the contestants, but also to become successful mentors to the singers on the show, just like on “The Voice: Korea.”
Baek Jiyoung’s genuine and unexpected addition gave Superstar K a new, inspired energy. When asked about it, the singer replied, “It’s hard to explain the energy about Superstar K; it makes it seem like you can fly. The mentors will really pull the potential from the passing contestants to help maximize their own personality and skill.”
She also responded, “I will put my heart and soul into helping to birth the new face and sound of upcoming music.”
A Superstar K6 representative stated, “Baek Jiyoung’s singing ability and performance skill makes her Korea’s top diva, but her humility and humanitarian charm makes her someone the contestants can pour their passion into.”
In addition, Baek Jiyoung will be performing a special stage to celebrate joining the Superstar K6 crew as a judge and display her musical passion on the 15th at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium for the “Superstar K6 All Star Concert.”
Mnet “Superstar K6” began their application and audition process in March in 14 cities across Korea, the United States, Japan, and the Philippines, with auditions that consisted of three rounds before an applicant can truly consider himself a contestant. With a open casting call across a large number of cities, the contestants had to show true ability to stand out. The first episode will air September 22nd at 11am KST.
